Ian Burke, weed scientist with Washington State University’s Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, will lead conservation research benefiting Washington’s $800 million wheat industry as the new R. James Cook Endowed Chair in Wheat Research.

Named for one of WSU’s most renowned scientists, the Cook Endowed Chair was established in 1997 by the then-Washington Wheat Commission, now the Washington Grain Commission, to deliver innovative research and teaching that benefits the state’s wheat growers.


Kevin Murphy was award Fulbright Global Scholar, Ecuador 2019 and Malawi 2020.

All-State CSS Faculty Retreat

This year’s All-State CSS Faculty Retreat is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 6th and Wednesday, Aug. 7th in Mount Vernon. CSS Faculty who will be attending and traveling need to submit a Travel Authority (using budget 3019-9901) prior to making any travel arrangements.

The department will cover two nights stay (Aug. 5th and 6th, room & tax only) at the Holiday Inn Express in Burlington, WA. The Holiday Inn Express is holding a block of 20 rooms until July 15th. If you are planning to attend and need hotel accommodations, please contact CeeCee in sales at the Burlington Holiday Inn Express at 360-755-7338 M-F, 8:30am to 5:00pm (voicemail acceptable and CeeCee will return your call).
