Weed Identification
WSU Extension provides a weed identification service where your specimens may be identified by a professional taxonomist or weed science Extension specialist. There is no charge.
Digital Identification Method:
Weeds are identified by flowers and fruits/seeds. Leaves, stems, buds, and roots may also aid in identification.
The best method for creating digital images of your specimens is with a flatbed scanner, including a ruler, coin, etc. for determining scale. Please send digital images of your specimen to marshdj@wsu.edu
In your message, please include comments about where you found the specimen growing (county or region, as well as roadside, pasture, lawn garden, forest/meadow, crop and crop name, range, etc.). Also, describe the weed (odor, spreading, viny, height, flower color, etc.) and extent of the infestation, as well as state your reason for concern.
What will I get back?
