Dr. Daniel HillelDr. Daniel Hillel, international authority on sustainable management of soil and water resources and author.

"The vital and challenging role of environmental soil science in an increasingly troubled world"

Daniel Hillel served as Professor and Head of Soil and Water Sciences at the Hebrew University, has been professor of soil physics, hydrology, and environmental sciences at several leading universities, and has been a consultant on agricultural development and environmental protection to the World Bank and several agencies of the U.N.

Students from all disciplines are welcome to learn about research and educational initiatives at WSU dealing with sustainability, resource conservation, the environment from multiple perspectives including social, economic and environmental arenas.

Panel Discussion: Benefits and Obstacles to Campus Sustainability at Washington State University

The ecological and human impacts of Washington State University are far flung; some of the causes are as close as the nearest light bulb, computer screen or single-paned window. This panel discussion brings together staff of recycling services, campus housing, dining services and central stores with the upper administration. Questions concerning what is, is not, and could be done with respect to sustainability at WSU will be engaged in a moderated panel discussion.

Representative from the the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)

Learning how to live sustainably is a journey as important for institutions of higher education as it is for individuals or governments. For WSU the question is: what makes a university sustainable? AASHE will cover the germination and efflorescence of critical thinking on sustainability in the university setting, covering the myriad opportunities for individuals and their institutions of higher education to close ranks behind what is, essentially, the responsibility of sustainability.
