Crop Genetics
Crop genetics is one of the strongest and best represented disciplines in the Dept. of Crop and Soil Sciences. Nationally and internationally renowned basic and applied crop genetics and breeding research, teaching, and extension programs impact science, undergraduate and graduate student education, and important crop commodity industries in Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Programs aligned with specific important global crops include wheat, barley, cool season grain legumes (peas, lentils, chickpeas), warm season grain legumes (common bean, soybean, azuki), and hops. Cool season crop programs are based in Pullman, while the warm season grain legumes and hops programs are based at the Irrigated Research and Extension Center at Prosser.
