Research
My basic research interests have been and are in these areas:
- Biosynthesis of the photosynthetic membrane and chloroplast biogenesis
- Chromosome pairing, mechanism of crossing-over and genome analysis (Participant in
sequencing the yeast genome)
- Expression of interesting enzymes in E. coli, yeast (now Pichia), and Mucor
My research in plant breeding concern:
- The development of proanthocyanidin-free barley (Metabolic engineering)
- Synthesis and degradation of endosperm proteins in barley
- Development of barleys expressing recombinant proteins during grain maturation or germination (malting)
- Breeding of brewers yeast (amphidiploid Saccharomyces carlsbergensis) [No longer active]
