Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q: How do I start the application process?

A: The first step in the process is to complete an application form with the WSU Graduate School. Additionally, please contact Debra Marsh marshdj@wsu.edu and express your intent to apply.

 

Q: Do I need to take the GRE?

A: The GRE is recommended for domestic students, but not required. International students are required to take the GRE.

 

Q: Is there an application deadline?

A: International students must submit their application and all supporting documents to the Graduate School by March 1st for fall semester, and by July 1st for spring semester. There is no set deadline for domestic students.

 

Q: How do I find out about assistantship or scholarship opportunities?

A: Students who complete the application process and are accepted into our program are often awarded assistantships. Additionally there are scholarships available from the department and the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences.

 

Q: I’m interested in studying for an MS or PhD in Organic Agriculture. What opportunities are available in your department?

A: While there is not a MS or PhD in Organic Agriculture degree, you can pursue a degree in either Crop Science or Soil Science with an emphasis on organic agriculture. We have several faculty and graduate students who work in the areas of organic and sustainable agriculture. Additionally, WSU has an Organic research and teaching farm located near the Pullman campus which provides students with on-farm research and education opportunities.

 

Q: I’m interested in getting a PhD from your program. Will I be required to do a lab rotation during my first year?

A: Our students begin work with their advisor upon arriving at WSU. There is no lab rotation required, however your research project may involve work with more than one faculty member and/or laboratory.
